Pet Policy

We are a DOG-FRIENDLY property with appropriate Fee for dogs that meet our guidelines and are declared on the booking. NO CATs or other animals under any circumstances (even service animals/ESA cats) as we have a documented, life-threatening allergy and cat dander can stick around for years.

Please review rental agreement for house rules regarding pets and/or service dogs.  Dogs are not to be on furniture or left unattended unless crated and we have several we can loan you.  As we live above with our 2 dogs, we ask that guests consider whether a shared walls situation is a good fit for their canine family members.  Unfortunately no soundproofing is able to mute dog barking and howling and your dog is likely to hear our dogs moving around upstairs and smell them.  We've successfully hosted dozens of dogs without issue, but for some, it can cause severe anxiety. We recommend setting up an app like Barkio on a tablet to monitor dogs while away as they may behave differently than while in your home and in their normal routine.  We are very understanding that even well-behaved dogs may take a bit to settle into a new space, but dogs that bark continuously break our hearts and make our dogs anxious and we may contact you to return home. For longer periods away we are happy to recommend walkers and/or doggy daycare centers nearby.

There are plenty of grassy areas just outside the door to relieve dogs.  For the safety of our animals, guest pets are not allowed on the back patio without special permission.  One of the best veterinary hospitals, VCA, as well as two other urgent care veterinarians are within walking distance should any emergencies occur. We also cater to our canine guests with the following provided:

Crates
Beds
Bowls
Poop bags
Towels
Blankets

Old Town is a dog's paradise and well-behaved pups are welcome in 99% of shops and restaurant patios.  We are happy to send a document with dog-friendly recommendations upon request following booking confirmation as well as our favorite, shaded walking routes during summer months.  Old Town Alexandria has been named A Top 5 Small City in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler and One Of The Most Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations by Expedia (2019). Walking down King Street, you’ll see people not only strolling along the street with their dogs but sitting in the outdoor restaurant seating areas with them. You can even take your dog on a Canine Cruise on the Potomac Riverboat! (Dogs ride free of course!), take a Monuments Cruise to DC, cruise to George Washington’s Mount Vernon, or purchase tickets for the Water Taxi which will take you to National Harbor, the Wharf, or even a Nationals’ Baseball game!
